Model Monday's are a spotlight on the new faces in the fashion industry. Models who are making a name for themselves! This Monday we bring to you the BEAUTIFUL Sakena Cesar. We briefly talked and asked a few questions. So here we go.

AEJ: Tell me a bit about yourself, the fun and informal?

Sakena Cesar: I'm 21 years young(smiling). I was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved from Staten Island, NY to Durham, NC when I was 5. My family and I lived in Durham for a year before we moved to Cary, NC which is where I was raised and consider my "home." I now live in Palm Coast, FL. I come from a unique ethnic background. I am Indian-Jamaican and Haitian and proud of my heritage. My family is my world and there is nothing I wouldn't do for them. I have 1 niece and 3 nephews whom are growing up too fast for me. I enjoy watching each of them grow into unique individuals. I also love food! My Mom is known for her equisite Jamaican dishes and I love my Grand Mother's Haitian cooking, YUUUM(my mouth is watering just thinking about it). I'm open minded and appreciate the small things in life. I'm always willing to try almost anything at least once. I feel in life that it is not good to be close-minded because you are missing out on the greatness life has to offer you.

AEJ: What got you interested in modeling?

Sakena Cesar: The idea of being a canvas for an artist and the creating of a story without words is absolutely fascinating to me and is what initially interested me in the modeling industry.

AEJ: What sets you apart from others in the modeling industry?

Sakena Cesar: I believe what sets me apart from others in the industry is my fresh and uncommon look. I enjoy observing the industry and I'm intrigued by the many different aspects the modeling industry has to offer such as photography, different types of styling, and editing just to name a few. I hope to branch out and try it all.

AEJ: Who is your favorite designer or who is the fashion industry would you like to work with?

Sakena Cesar: I would love to work with John Galliiano, Alex White, Karl Lagerfield and many many more. I would also love to do prints/adds for Guess and BEBE.

AEJ: What are the popular misconceptions of models?

Sakena Cesar: Popular misconceptions of models are that we just look pretty in front of a camera and do not put much effort into our work, which is far from the truth!

AEJ: What projects are you currently working on?

Sakena Cesar: I'm actually working on submitting to a model search(don't want to give too many details). I have a few photo shoots planned for the next 2 weeks to give my port more sparkle:).

AEJ: If you had only 6 months left to live, what would you do with that time?

Sakena Cesar: With 6 months to live I would spend as much time with my family as possible and travel the world(Jet Setting)!

So enough talking, I'm sure you can tell that Sakena is a very intelligent and family oriented woman. And her ethnic background is very intriguing. Thirsty Thursday - "Dw" by Kanye West...Thoughts?

Kanye West debuted his fashion line during Paris Fashion Week, October 1st 2011. The result was a cutting edge, cool and luxury collection that you would expect from the incomparable hip-hop visionary.

Named Dw, after his mother Donda West who passed away in 2007, the line offered up a collection of neutrally shaded tough girl chic ensembles, heavy on the layering and texture.

Kanye achieved his desired look with the help of respected British designers Louise Goldin and Katie Eary. The specially designed shoes for the collection were from the mind of Giuseppe Zanotti. The collection was allegedly inspired by Christine Centenera, and editor at Harper's Bazaar Australia.

Held in a Lycee Henri IV, a Paris middle school, a genuine mixture of fashion and celeb royalty were in attendance front and center. A listers included Ciara, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, Mr. Hudson, Sky Ferreira, Carine Roitfeld, Anna Wintour, Jared Leto, and Terry Richardson to name a few. Designers to adorn the Dw presentation included Joseph Altuzarra, Dean and Dan Caton of Dsquared, Alexander Wang and Jeremy Scott. Model Chanel Iman closed the show with Anja Bubik, Karli Kloss and Jourdan Dunn also walked out.

Now I like Kanye. His music is very passionate and at times controversial. But Kanye's line not sure if I like it or not. It is wearable, and I can see it in everyday life, but I'm on the fence. Let me grace you with some more of his collection and you be the judge.

Wild Wednesdays - Fashion Untamed @ The VMA's!

The VMA’s are not too far gone. And if you know like I do...we saw some of the wildest most outrageous fashion statements made to date. I was in shock to see some of what was worn on the Red Carpet from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Kreayshawn and Jessie J. I understand that they are trying to stand out, but come on, who in their right mind thought that looked good? I sure as hell didn’t!

For all the mess that was on display at the VMA’s, there were a lot of great looks too! I loved Beyonce’s red dress and how she showed off her baby bump. She really stole the show with the announcement or should I say showing. Well, enough of my rambling, see and judge for yourself...cringe and or enjoy!

WTH was she thinking? No words!

Tantalizing Tuesdays - We Want Curves!

Hello, fashion designers! Why are you still filling the runways at NYC Fashion Week with models so skinny they look like little fawns?

Women don’t want to be fawns, baby colts, pencils or skeletons! Women want to be fit, healthy and sexy! Women want to look great for themselves AND, yes, also for men.

That is a FACT! Women enjoy feeling alluring for the men in their lives… or for the men that they want to have in their lives.

And yes, while every woman wants to lose 5 or 10 lbs and is constantly working out or watching what she eats, no normal woman wants to look like the rail-thin models marching down the fashion runways at NY Fashion Week.

Those poor things have legs like sticks, bony knees, protruding clavicle bones, wraith-like arms and not a hint of hips , tummies or breasts. They are sexless!

Friday Night aka Ladies Night is here! So as we push through the work day, our thoughts aren’t on the work we are doing at the moment(you know your tired of looking at that speadsheet girl!), our thoughts are on what we’re doing and where we’re going tonight! And you know if we’re stepping out, we have got to be sexy. And there is nothing sexier then the Little Black Dress or LBD as it is oftentimes referred to. A little black dress can take you many places! It can work at the office as long as it’s not to provocative, it can be causal and it can be the perfect little cocktail or party dress that turns heads as soon as you step in the room. The key to the LBD is how you accessorize it!

Seriously, every woman loves their little back dress because it helps to cover up our problem areas and is the perfect dress for those times when you’re feeling a bit bloated.

You can make the most of your LBD with the right accessories. A completely different look can be yours every time you slip on that little back dress and I will let you know how! Here are 5 ways to accessorize and create a different outfit every time you wear it.

#1. Vividly Bold Shoes - Now since I love shoes (a habit my husband feed sometime) this is one way I love to accessorize a little black dress. Stilettos, Pumps, Wedges of any color on the rainbow or color wheel will make your dress pop. Red, blue, pink, orange, green...any color will work. Fall is upon us and so are the fall fashions! It’s after Labor Day, and ladies we know its time to step our shoe/boot swag up for the up coming season! So what are the trends for the 2011/2012 fall/winter season? I’m Glad you asked! Here is the TOP 10 shoe trends for this season.

#1. Snake Skin is in! The big name and some of my favorite designers are opting to showcase reptile skin shoes/boots in their fall/winter collections. #2. Although not a staple of my collection, Patent Leather has its place. Many will argue that patent leather is gorgeous! This morning I was having a conversation with a colleague on a busy street when a young woman approached me and said, “Excuse me, I love your clogs!” I looked down and admired my recently acquired, long-coveted, black leather clogs. Then, a quick second later she asked me the inevitable follow-up: “Where did you get them?” I gladly told her the name of the shop and the address, too.

Maybe all of us have experienced a version of this polite, complimentary inquiry. However, I’ve often wondered why no one ever asks the more intriguing question: “Who made your clothes?” With this in mind, we decided to ask regular folk on the streets of New York City, followed by a more important query: “Do you care?”

It was a fascinating and fun experiment, and it gave us an idea: We’d love to hear from you! Where does your clothing come from? Do you know who made it — and do you care?

Defeating the Imposter Syndrome

I get a great sense of pride and joy from announcing to people that I am a jewelry Artisan. Sometimes I can’t believe that I have built a great business pursuing my passion for jewelry design and networking with artists and entrepreneurs. I talk about taking my business to the next level all the time. I know there are plenty of multi-million dollar handmade jewelry design businesses and I am certain that my business could reach that level. So what am I waiting for? When I was still a slave to Corporate America, I would never remain on a job for longer than 6 months before boredom would set in and I was expecting a raise and a promotion for all my hard work. So why am I content to slow crawl my way to success when I am in control? I guess it’s because I don’t consider myself an expert in the jewelry making industry. I know I’m great at what I do, I receive requests for my creations, and I have customers all over the world. So, what is missing from my portfolio to classify me as an expert? If I’m not an expert, I guess I’m an imposter, pretending to be an artist until someone else says yes, Michelle you are an artist.

In a recent post to her blog Ali Brown, millionaire entrepreneur and mentor to thousands of other women entrepreneurs, states that “entrepreneurs should position themselves from the start of their business as experts in their field.” This is the attitude that will propel a business to where we want it to grow. So instead of impersonating a Jewelry Artisan, it’s time to make my vision for All-Earz Jewelry a reality.

About a week ago I offered people the opportunity to take jewelry making classes with me. I would like to open up that offer again but this time I want to invite any of my local followers to take jewelry making classes with an expert in the field of jewelry creation and design and the owner of a successful international, handmade jewelry design business whose designs appear in popular fashion magazines and have been worn by celebrities. It will also be my pleasure to share some of my design techniques here on my blog for those who may not be able to attend a traditional class.

So, what are you doing today to break out of the Imposter Syndrome? Do you believe in yourself? Are you setting goals for your business and are you putting forth the effort that is necessary for you to achieve those goals? Are you really an artist, an entrepreneur, teacher, writer, etc., or are you just impersonating one until you’re told otherwise.

Wow. I can't believe a whole year and a half has gone by since I wrote my last blog. As they say, time flies when you're having fun and I have had a great time creating beautiful jewelry, defining my brand, and promoting All Earz Jewelry as a business. I think I'm off to a pretty good start and now I would like to open up some dialog about the business of creating handmade jewelry. The creative process can be quite isolating and when I am in the creative zone, I do not pay attention to trends or industry news. So writing this Blog will allow me to stay connected to the business side of my craft. Being a Jewelry Artisan is my passion but it doesn't hurt to make some money while pursuing your passion. But I digress...back to the art.

What is your creative process? Do you look at a picture? Do you design to a particular style? Oddly enough my creative process starts with the material. When I purchase my supplies I have no idea what I am going to make. I am drawn to the colors, textures, and shapes and I just buy whatever catches my eye. I touch the stones and gems and arrange them and rearrange them until I think of a design. Touching the material allows thoughts to formulate in my mind and those thoughts eventually become art or jewelry. All of the components of the stones (shape, color, texture) determine whether the design will be crazy runway material or elegant dinner party accessories. I surprise myself every time. I look forward to hearing from my fellow artisans about what inspires you to create.
